I felt so welcome the moment I walked through the door. It was my first time in so I had no idea what to get, but the gentleman behind the counter shared the specials, one being the teriyaki salmon (Monday special). It looked delicious, and just one piece was left, so how could I not grab it? I got Mac salad as my side, today it was a tuna mac and it was delish. $15 for a flavorful plate lunch with perfectly cooked salmon and welcoming staff, can't wait to come back again to try more!

The food is amazing and full of flavor. The Salmon dishes were all delicious which included Salmon Katsu which I never had. It was sooo juicy and flavorful and generous portion. Crowds of people from courthouse are in line at lunch hour so go early before he sells out! It's a funky decor a little hole in the wall but the chef and food are wonderful.

The food is always good. So don't be surprised if they sell out of stuff. It's ok since the regular items are just as good. But if you want the specials of the day, highly recommend getting there early. Service is great. Mike has a dry sense of humor, I think. But he will crack a smile. You, as a customer, gotta know that owning and running a restaurant isn't easy so don't be offended if Mike seems like he ran out of steam. He's just like us! Cashier lady is super nice. She will always try to upsell some dessert. And today, since I got my blood drawn, I got a pie/brownie/bar thing. No fancy decorations; just some kids' drawings, pictures of Max and Lucy, and that's it. It does get kinda warm inside since the kitchen is open, but there is seating outside. You pretty much walk in and queue up for food. Move down the side of the counter to the cashier to pay. After that are condiments and a water station. It's simple but works. I usually walk or bike from my office. Best to find street parking since it isn't clear who can park in the lot next door. Since this place is located near federal and circuit court, this place gets super busy during lunch. I wish they were open on weekends but pretty sure I would be the only customer.

Went there today for the first time. Never heard of this place until one of my coworkers mentioned how good the food was. I got a mix plate with fried chicken and Teri chicken and good lord the fried chicken was crispy and Devine the Teri chicken reminded me of school when they would serve "oriental chicken" that's what it was called lol but it was nostalgic to me. The price was great! The plate was 9.50 but I got the lemon bar that I was not a fan of it had a weird taste that I can't describe. But the food overall was good. Everything came out to 14.50 that lemon bar was too expensive for what ut was lol Overall the man who helped us I think he was the owner, but he was super nice and quick with it. He banged out 7 customers by himself and he was efficient. I will be back to try more food! This place has delicious comfort meals. To me. And to the dummeh complaining bout not having hamburger curry or whatever..shaddup go eat somewhere else instead of being a fkn troll. You don't like his food then go Cook your own or go ask your mom to raise you better. How dare you come on here and be a keyboard thug to talk down on somebody's hustle. Incompetent fool

Came here to try the lunch menu. So many options! They definitely are busy, but keep the line moving. I ordered the fried chicken and was surprised as the amount of food they gave! Three large pieces of chicken. All pieces of chicken were super crispy and juicy. Definitely good fried chicken. I also saw the prime rib and baked potato on the menu, which I will be back to try. The prices for some items went up since the last time I visited, but the prices are still super reasonable. The guy serving the food is super friendly and so is the lady behind the cash register. Ok ok, I haven't gotten a chance to get their food on my own, however, my office got breakfast catered from Max & Lucy's for a couple years now. The owner, Mike, was so accommodating for our end of year office breakfast and worked with my manager on the food items. Because we like the food, I had no hesitation to offer to pick up our food to help them out since they were not sure about having an available driver. I got to Max & Lucy's around 8:15am (our order pick up was at 8:30). I ran up to the door but it was closed with a sign they were opening at 10:00 for lunch. Inside I could see Mike working hard and making pans of food which of course was my order. We got 2 pans of Fried Rice, 5 pans of scrambled eggs, 1 pan each of bacon, pineapple sausage and little smokies. They were packed perfectly in 3 large boxes which made transport easy for me. Also, they were ready precisely at 8:30 on the dot! So I realized I didn't take a photo of the pans of food, just my plate when we had our breakfast. I've had lots of breakfasts and it really is hard to get it wrong. Max & Lucy's tastes like a yummy home cooked breakfast (I mean it is) and everything was just delicious. For our office Mike makes a "bacon pack" which is 3 pieces of bacon in one so that it's easy for everyone to grab an equal amount of meat. The eggs were not runny or overdone and they taste delicious with hot sauce. I liked the way it was cooked and not too salty which can happen with eggs sometimes. Having pineapple sausage was a treat and Mike made the perfect sized cuts of sausage including some small pieces for folks that just wanted a bite. Now that I realize it's within walking distance of my workplace, I know I will take the short walk to come and get lunch. I know the portions are decent sizes and prices are reasonable. The menu looked good and I'm looking forward to more comfort food!

We came to try out their breakfast and it was served really fast! We got their breakfast with chicken, eggs and fried rice and the price was very reasonable. The person serving was very friendly and personable, he even gave my pup a few bacon! Their lemon bar, though, was definitely the highlight of my breakfast! It was so tasty and not overly sweet, but it leaves you wanting more! Their lunch seems interesting too, so we'll definitely come back for their lunch menu next time!

If you like lemon bar or in mood for some sweets, this is a must place to try. For $4.50 you get a generous size. It is light and really good. I also got the azuki bar. It was also light and very very good. They have lots of goodies in their small showcase. Max & Lucy also serves break fast and lunch like a cafeteria style. Nice gentleman who is the chef and server is so friendly and down to earth. He let me know that they can take orders in advance for parties. This will definitely be on my list the next office potluck event. They are next to the old Hawaii State Federal Credit Union on Halekauwila Street. If you work near by, it's worth a try and good to help out small business.

Private parking lot. Open early morning, 5am. Breakfast bento is $6. Includes rice, egg, two sides. Darn good deal! House made desserts are fabulous. I ordered the chocolate chip bundt cake, lemon bundt cake, apple cake. The carrot cake with cream cheese frosting is to die for, especially right out of the freezer! (That's where I stored my piece) If you can / want to eat there, lots of seating inside and outside. If there is a line and it's your first time, ask someone how ordering works, or really pay attention to how others ahead of you are ordering as to not hold up the line when it's your turn. (Guilty!)
